About

Artwork cataloguing for artists and galleries

CloudCat began as one artist's own catalogue — a place to keep every work, every edition, every sale in order, and an easy, quick way to send a list of available works to a collector or friend. Before, sending that list meant piecing scattered information together — a spreadsheet here, a folder of half-named photographs there — and an overwhelming afternoon laying out a PDF by hand.

CloudCat is made with care, from a studio in Cape Town. Drawing on decades of software engineering, I'm building this one for myself — rigorous, methodical, and the same tool I use to catalogue my own work. It's an independent app, so every product decision comes directly from me, a full-time user. Slow craft, serious infrastructure: a public API on top of your catalogue, so your data stays yours. If something feels clunky, could be improved, or is missing — write to me.

Principles

What guides this work

Built with purpose

One tool, made carefully for one job — keeping an artist's or gallery's catalogue in order. Too many options and checkboxes make my eyes roll into the back of my head, so I'd rather get a few small things right than pile on features for the sake of it.

A quieter kind of software

No streaks, no badges, no notifications tugging at your attention. CloudCat should be useful the moment you open it and out of your way the moment you close it.

Designed from instinct

I listen first, then build. Most of what's good here started as a conversation with an artist or a gallery telling me what they actually needed.

Independent and user-funded

Funded by the people who use it, and answerable to them. No investors and no growth targets to chase — just steady, sustainable work, at a pace that lets me do it properly.

Your work stays yours

Your catalogue is yours — not a training set for someone's model, not a profile for advertisers, not a product on the side. A public API sits on top of your own data, so it stays portable too.
